- June, 2024: Last week, 3 of our group members presented a poster at the Cancer Center Amsterdam Conference in Noordwijkerhout. Well done, Reené White (MSc student), Seth Fobian (PhD student) and Fan Yang (PhD student)
- January, 2024: Congratulations to dr. Arlene Oei who has been appointed as vice-president elect of the Society for Thermal Medicine (STM).
- May, 2023: Our esteemed colleague and research collaborator dr. H. Crezee received the prestigious George M Hahn Award from the Society for Thermal Medicine in recognition of his previous and continuing contributions to the field of hyperthermia. Congratulations with this great (and well deserved) honor.
- April, 2023: On Friday April 14th, Roxan Helderman defended her PhD thesis titled 'Improving the HIPEC tratment delivery for colorectal cancer patients with peritoneal metastasis: The heat and time is on' at the University of Amsterdam. Congrats with an impressive thesis and the great discussions during the defense.
- March, 2023: After more than 40 years of radiobiology research, dr. Peter Sminia celebrated his retirement on March 29th with colleagues, friends and family. There was live music from the Amsterdam UMC bigband in which Peter played saxophone. Apart from flowers, Peter received a 'Museum Jaarkaart' for his family as well as many donations to support young students in a hospital in Somalia. We thank Peter for all his contributions to the international radiobiology field, not only as researcher, but also as teacher, manager, and board member of multiple radiotherapy- and radiobiology-focussed organisations.
- January, 2023: The CCA honours Peter Sminia as the new ERRS president.

- January 2023: As of this month, dr. Peter Sminia is the new president of the ERRS. Congrats!
- December, 2022: Pei Pei Che wins a 'Living with Hope' personal grant.
- October, 2022: The lab went for a 'bouldering' team-building activity at BeBoulder in Amsterdam. A great way to get to know each other in a challenging environment.
- June, 2022: Victor Thijssen gave a workshop for PhD students on the ins and outs of Adobe illustrator for preparing paper figures.
- June, 2022: We hosted a 1-week PhD-course for the OOA graduate school entitled 'Radiation Oncology – Biological, Physical and Clinical Aspects of Irradiation'.
- November, 2021: Recently, Karin Nuijens and Pei Pei Che, two of our PhD students have been awarded a Young Investigator Award by the European Radiation Research Society. This allows them to present their work at the 46th ERRS Annual Meeting which will take place in Caen, France, from November 26th until November 30th 2021.
- September, 2021: This month, the recently purchased CellRad compact benchtop X-ray irradiator arrived at the VUmc location. The radiobiology labs at both locations now have the same irradiator at their disposal. This further adds to our function as radiation facility for researchers at Amsterdam UMC. Acquisition of the CellRad has been made possible by financial support of the Cancer Center Amsterdam.
- April, 2021: Recently, Arlene Oei was interviewed by Olijf, the Dutch Network for women with gynaecological cancer. You can read the interview here (article only in Dutch)'.
- Apr 13, 2021: Dr. A.L. Oei is part of a project team that received a 600k (€) grant from the Dutch Cancer Society. The department of Radiation Oncology received over 1 million Euro's in total from the DCS for research.
- March 25, 2021: Last week, all three PI's gave lectures in the course 'Radiobiology and Medical Applications of Radiation' which is part of the education programme 'Radiation protection expert at the level of the General Coordinating Expert'. What a great opportunity to share our knowledge.
- Feb 24, 2021: Today, we had a farewell party for our technician Jaap vd Berg who will retire this month. We are sad to loose this great colleague who has contributed so much to our radiobiology group. At the same time, we wish him all the best for the next phase of his life with his friends and family.
- Jan 12, 2021: Today, our esteemed colleague dr. Klaas Franken started his retirement. There are no words to describe his contribution to the Amsterdam radiobiology group specifically, and the international research field of radiobiology in general. We wish him all the best and hope that we can occasionally still rely on his tremendous knowledge and valuable feedback.
